The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the LORD and his anointed king. They say, “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us. Let’s free ourselves from their ropes.”

This is the attitude of the world towards biblical Christianity – an obstacle to freedom and to the advancement of civilization.
It’s no different from when the psalm was written. God and his ways are seen as obstacles and people view sin as freedom – until they find out sin is the real prison.
None of what we see today in the trends and philosophies of the culture are new. It was the same in ancient times prior to Messiah. People threw off the ways of God and found themselves afflicted, oppressed, and possessed.
And then messiah came.
