Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Psalm 91:8

Sometimes it seems like the advancement of all that is wicked, all that is against the Lord and His ways is so strong that it cannot be stopped.

But it is only the result of a nation, a people, even the church that has turned its back on God. Such happened many times with God’s people Israel. They were ruled more often than not by wicked kings who called upon other gods, setting up unauthorized altars in high places. This is what it means for a nation to turn its back on the Lord.

God, in His patience, in His mercy, sends prophets to warn people about what they are doing and to return to the Lord. There is warning of judgement and opportunity to repent. But when a people, a nation is stiff necked, obstinate, God eventually gives that people over to pursue their own way. This leads to judgement. But with the warning of judgement comes the promise of blessing and restoral for faithful people who return to the Lord and His ways – who forsake other gods and destroy the idols and altars in the high places.

Psalm 91 speaks of you choosing the shelter of the Most High, the shadow of the Almighty and of the protection and benefits of remaining there no matter what. Psalm 91:8 speaks to the “reward” of the wicked. The retribution of God directed against them. The fortress is protection for those who come in, but the day comes in which the Lord responds to the wicked. They will receive payment in full for their acceptance of false gods and their rejection of Him, the one true God, the Holy one of Israel. The Almighty will eventually respond. Perhaps He waits until the righteous come in to the shelter of the fortress. If that’s you, don’t wait.

The day of recompense of the wicked – that spoken of in verse 8 – is coming. Do you trust Him?

If you come in to abide in the shadow of the Almighty, you will not be harmed by the wicked or the coming judgement. You will only look on with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. When it comes, you do not want to be outside the fortress which has closed its gates, regretting your choice, instead, you want to be in the fortress – trusting the LORD, Jehovah Metsudah.

The day is coming in which the gates to the fortress will close. Where do you choose to be? With the wicked? Poor choice.

Now is the time to come in. Not tomorrow, not “lets wait and see what happens”, do not delay. Now. Come in now.

Repent. Trust the Lord today.
